Is priming mini's in white or black best for amateur painters?

When painting miniture figures like Warmachine, or Warhammer, as an amateur or beginner painter, should you base in black or white paint?

Its mostly about personal preference. But, I prefer black myself because if you miss a few spots of balck in the deep model crevaces it actaully adds to the shadow effect created by using ink washes and drybrushes. With balck you may have to add more than one coat. People interested more in playing usually prefer white because you normally only have to apply one coat.
