Well First you need to obtain a Collectors Catalogue by doing the Tenji's Tower which isnt far from your currrent Chapter. As you land on Grand Pluse your destination next is to go to the Tenji Tower, but it is far away as you need to track through Caves to reach there.

(Spolier Maybe)

As you arrive you need to complete various of challenges, for statues and are ranked like the C'eith Stones located around Grand Pluse. The first two are i think Rank D then goes to Rank C then to Rank B and i think theres One Rank A in there. You need to complete all missions in Tenji's Tower to asscend upwards to the top Floor. There you will need to defeat a powerful Foe at the top. Once you have defeated him, return to the Seventh Floor on the Tenji Tower and the Collector Catalogue will be there somewhere.

The Collectors Catalogue increases the common drop items from Monster. However you can buy this Catalogue further in the game for around 10000 Gil (Not to Sure).

Now the Connoisseur Catalogue is the upgraded version which increases the Rare Drop of items from Monster. To upgrade it you need various Items. The best think to do it buy 36 Sturdy Bones which is cheap and that will give you a 3X Multiplier. Now if you have an Ultacompact Reactors or anything that gives high Exp use that one it. Once it reaches the Star you will need a Manar Stone to upgrade it from its original form into the Connoisseur. Now you have the chance for rare items to be dropped more frequently.

I can't remember what C'ieth Stones give you the Collectors Catalogue, and by the way if you are planning to Farm Gil be prepared as i spend around 6 Hours farming 2Million Gil from Perfumes to by a Trape Stone (Can't remember spelling but costs 2Million) To upgrade Lightnings second form Weapon into her Final Form Weapon.

Hope this Helped.

No, it won't make a difference. To improve on the previous answer, it's not mission 54 that gets you the gold nugget. It's mission 63, which gets you a gold nugget and a chance of a trapezohedron drop and Platinum ingot. The best tip I can offer, apart from a connoisseur catalog, is fight heaps of Adamantoise. They become easy as after a few battles, especially with how much CP they drop, allowing you to grow stronger. If you're going for all the achievements, then you'll have to fight A LOT of them, and you'll probably even find yourself getting frustrated when getting Trapezohedrons instead of platinum ingots. I had about 30 by the time I got the treasure hunter achievement. The drop rate isn't as rare as 1% believe me. Just keep persevering and you'll achieve what you want to.
