Will my GameCube save onto a memory card if I put the memory card in while still playing the game?

Hi, so I recently went out to buy some GameCube games that I missed (My cousin gave me his) and I picked up five games, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Cart: Double Dash, and Luigi's Mansion. Me and him have been playing Melee nonstop for the past few days I've had it and we wanted to enter a tournament, so we did, and won. We got $50 each and went out to buy some memory cards but with our luck, the store was close for some reason. We just got everything there is to get in the game and still no memory card, we were just wondering if tomorrow when we get the memory card, will the game save onto the memory card if we put it in while playing the game? We haven't turned off the game yet because we know we will lose our progress and are in desperate need of a way to keep it. To simplify it, will it save even though we put in the card while playing?

It depends on the game. If the game auto saves and it tells you that it won't save if you click the option then yoru screwed. However most of those games mention save at a certain time, or give you the option to save so you should be good. That said unless you got really far I don't know if it's wise to leave a decade old gamecube on over night. Plus finding a memory card might be harder because the gamecube has been out of print for about 8 years now.

hmm. i do beleive it will work if you put in the memory card in while having it on. everytime you try to save/load a game it will search for a memory card. it will say or not if you have one and if you want to either A.) continue without saving or B.) retry. so even if it doesnt work the first time then just select retry. or you could put in the memory card before you save that way it will probably read that you put one in.
