ok first of all there are diffrent ranks for diffrent parts of the military like the marines, navy, army, and airforce. but in airsoft you probally want to have just marines and army so here they are:

when you say ranger you are talking about the Army Rangers and plus thar has nothing to do with support gunners the army rangers are a special forcse unit which is deployed anywhere in the world easily in 14 hours.

the units in the army or marines is like this:

well..rangers were an elite unit for "special" tasks , , ..but support gunners would lay down covering fire usually with an MG, you had your snipers ...and ranks , basicly...if you give your troops ranks , well...say you were Sgt. and you were giving orders to a PVT. , well..that means he SHOULD follow those orders...and if he is a decent soldier, will.

ps: I was in the Navy, so you could call yourself a "seaman", and give your buddy the rank of Admiral. We have cooks and gunners, so you could be a seaman (cook) I suppose.

Usually only captains and below engage in actual combat. Most squads are composed of privates, corporels, and sarges, with a couple officers. You do have specialists within the enlisted ranks which have specialities,ie support, scout, gunner, sniper etc.. The Rangers are a specialized unit that engages in recon. and special forces operations. They are equilavent to the SEALS, Delta Force,Green Berets, etc.



If you want to do a realistic scenario in a paintball game, have a Lt. or Capt, depending on number of squads, as commander and some specialized enlisted men with varyings ranks that fill certain roles.
